CITB site management safety training scheme

Health & Safety North East run a number of accredited training courses, to ensure safer working environments throughout the UK. The CITB Site Safety Management Training Scheme (SMSTS) is one of the most highly regarded health and safety courses within the UK construction industry that is available for site managers and supervisors.

The SMSTS training course helps site managers and aspiring site managers develop a better understanding of the legal, moral and social responsibilities of their role, as well as to manage health and safety on site, in accordance with current legal provisions. They need the right knowledge and attitude, which requires training in the management techniques specified in the Approved Code of Practice for the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations, as a demonstration of competency in the role of site manager.

There are no prerequisites required for this course.

The aim of the SMSTS training course is to:-

  • Educate employers of their responsibility to provide safe and healthy work environments, as well as the right systems and methods required for safe activities in the workplace.
  • To cover the Health & Safety at Work Act, and the regulations relevant to the construction industry including: Site Set Up, CDM, Risk Assessment, Method Statements, Scaffolding, Electricity, Excavations, Demolition, Confined Spaces, and Working at Height.

A maximum of 16 trainees is accepted on this course, to ensure that each delegate gets the best possible learning experience, and further advice if required. All instructors from HSNE deliver top quality health and safety training, and they are all HSE/CITB accredited, possessing the NEBOSH Construction Certificate as a minimum.

The SMSTS course is takes place over 37 hours over 5 days, and can be delivered in-house or at one of Health & Safety North East’s national training centres. Candidates should be aware that in-house training tends to be more advantageous, as the HSNE trainers can tailor-make the learning activities to a specific workplace, which significantly reduces costs to the client.

A multiple choice examination is conducted at the conclusion of training, with each successful candidate being issued a certificate of attainment from the CITB Construction Skills.
