NEBOSH fire safety & risk management

Health and Safety North East offer a number of health and safety courses, delivered by quality instructors, aiming to keep workplaces safe for both workers and clients. As well as, ensuring that businesses are fulfilling their legal requirements, when it comes to health and safety.

The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate, builds on the knowledge gained through completion of the NEBOSH National General Certificate. It is designed for managers, supervisors and employee representatives, aiming to equip holders with the knowledge to conduct and review fire risk assessments. In addition, the course will educate attendees with methods of fire prevention and protection. This make the course perfect for those hoping to move to careers in fire safety advisor roles.

The NEBOSH Fire Safety Risk Management Certificate, provides a wide breadth of knowledge, enabling attendees carry out their fire safety duties effectively.

Holders of this qualification are entitled to:

  • Associate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), as well as, Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH.
  • Technician Membership (TIFPO) of the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO), and the qualification meets the academic requirements for Associate Membership (AMIFPO).
  • Persons with the relevant skills and experience may also apply to join the IFPO Fire Risk Assessors Register.

In addition, the NEBOSH Fire Safety Risk Management Certificate matches the competency criteria for fire risk assessors published by The Fire Risk Assessment Competency Council. These criteria are being adopted by professional bodies and third party certification bodies, who register or certificate fire risk assessors, and by commercial companies providing fire risk assessment services.

Course Content:

The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management course educates the management of health and safety, and in particular fire safety, including legal requirements. It also covers principles of fire and explosion, causes and prevention of fires, fire protection in buildings, and ensuring the safety of employees in the event of fire.

Unit FC1: Fire Safety and Risk Management

Element 1. Managing fire safety
Element 2. Principles of fire and explosion
Element 3. Causes and prevention of fire
Element 4. Fire protection in buildings
Element 5. Safety of people in a fire
Element 6. Fire safety risk assessment

Unit FC2: Fire Safety Practical Application

Assessment

Unit FC1 is a taught unit, assessed by one two-hour written examination, consisting of ten ‘short answer’ questions and one essay question. Unit FC2 is assessed by a four-hour fire risk assessment carried out in the candidate's workplace, within 14 days of sitting the examination for unit FC1.

The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management 5 day course, is designed for current NEBOSH NGC1 unit holders, gained in the last 5 years. Individuals who do not hold the NGC1, and wish to achieve the full NEBOSH Fire Certificate qualification, can instead take an 11 day course programme for NGC1, FC1 and FC2.

On completion, successful candidates will be suitably equipped to undertake fire risk assessments in most, low risk workplaces.

Course, Cost and Location

The course is held over 5 days, including an extra day for the examination, and is regularly run in Carlisle, Edinburgh, Leeds and Warrington.

Cost: £945.00 + Vat = £1,134.00, which includes the course book, additional notes, NEBOSH fees, coffees, biscuits and lunches.
